The Minister's Latin American Tour

 

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Nasser Bourita paid, from the 11th to the 15th of June 2019, an official tour to Latin American countries, notably the Dominican Republic, Suriname, Brazil, Chile and El Salvador.

This Tour has as an aim to give a new impetus to bilateral ties between Morocco and the countries of this region as well as to establish a renewed partnership for the benefit of South-South Cooperation.

The first stage of this Latin-American tour took place in the Dominican Republic where Mr Bourita was received by the President of the Republic, Mr. Danilo Medina. The Minister also held talks with his counterpart, Mr. Miguel Vargas Maldonado as part of the ongoing political dialogue between the two countries. The two Ministers expressed their satisfaction concerning the advance of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially since the visit paid by His Majesty the King to the Dominican Republic in 2004.

In Paramaribo (Capital of the Republic of Suriname), Mr. Nasser Bourita was received by HE Michael Ashwin Adhin, Vice-President of the Republic to shed lights on the important developments of bilateral cooperation between the two countries and to further reaffirm the strong willingness to further reinforce it on the basis of mutual friendship and understanding between the two countries.

The Moroccan Minister seized the occasion of his visit to met with his counterpart, Mr. Yldiz Pollack-Beighle to discuss themes of common interest to cooperation between the two countries marked by a convergence of points of view on a number of regional and international issues.

The Government of Suriname expressed his sincere thankfulness to HM the King of Morocco for His vision with regard to solidarity and union between the countries of the South.

In his Latin American tour, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation paid a visit to Brazil to held talks with his counterpart, Mr. Ernesto Araujo to tackle economic and commercial cooperation and to sign two agreements with regard to facilitation of investments and cooperation in the field of defense, respectively.

In Santiago (Capital of Chile), the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Nasser Bourita was received by Chilean President Sebastián Piñera to whom he transmitted a verbal message from HM King Mohammed VI.

For his part, Mr. Piñera expressed Chile's interest in promoting bilateral economic cooperation and increasing the flow of trade in goods and services with Morocco. He also stressed the importance of deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of culture, energy and education.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation concluded this Latin American tour by a visit to El Salvador where he met with the President, Mr. Nayeb Bukele to tackle bilateral ties between the two countries in a number of fields.

In a statement at the end of this visit, El Salvador declared that it breaks diplomatic relations with the polisario front and its artificial self-proclaimed sadr.

During this tour, many latin American countries voice their support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara.
