The Lions of Morocco crowned Champions of the Diplomatic Corps “Football World Cup” in Canberra


The Lions of Morocco which is the team representing the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco to Canberra, has won the Diplomatic Corps “Football World Cup” , organized by Capital Football in Australia after its large victory 5/0 against the V4 representing four European countries. During one month, this competition has witnessed the participation of 32 countries representing all continents.

During the phases of this final game held at the hawker Stadium, Morocco displayed an enjoyable offensive football which has let the opponents almost without options since the first half. Indeed, the Lions scored two goals during the first ten minutes of the final, paving the way for a comfortable victory.

The Moroccan players took total control of the game, offering various winning options for the lions who have succeeded to score 5 goals against a talented and tough opponent.

This Grand final came to crown a marvellous tournament in which the Moroccan team, faithful to its style based on a combination of well-organized defence and vertical effective attack, showed its superiority during the first round as well as during the knock-out rounds. In fact, the Lions of Morocco obtained brilliant results by winning all games, without exception, against competitive rivals.

Mr Damien Miller, Assistant Secretary at DFAT and the representatives from the Embassy of the Russian Federation presented to the Moroccan winning team the Trophy and some wonderful gifts/prizes from the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Various Ambassadors, personalities and Diplomatic Corps members, in addition to representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade attended this final event of the tournament, which contributes to the dynamism of diplomatic life in the Australian capital.
