Interview of the Ambassador with "Maroc Diplomatique"

The Ambassador of HM the King to Canberra, Mr Karim MEDREK has been interviewed recently by the Moroccan electronic website “Le Maroc Diplomatique”. In this interesting interview, the Ambassador highlights the excellent momentum of bilateral cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Commonwealth of Australia, as well as with New Zealand and the Pacific Island countries.
In this regard, Mr. MEDREK notes that the bilateral ties between the Kingdom and the countries of the region are marked by permanent consultations and convergence of views on a number of subjects of common interest.
The Ambassador declared that 2017 has been a year marked by many achievements with regard to the bilateral ties between Morocco and Australia. In this respect, he evoked the holding of a new session of political consultations recently in Canberra, the establishment of a parliamentary friendship group and the exchange of visits between officials of both countries. Moreover, Mr MEDREK considers that the recent opening of the Australian Embassy in Rabat will, surely, give a new impetus to cooperation between both countries.
Concerning economic cooperation, the Moroccan Ambassador pointed out to the necessity of prospecting new opportunities of cooperation, notably in fields such as agriculture, mining, water management....etc. He seized the occasion to recall that Morocco provides various opportunities of investments, being the gateway to the African continent.
On the cultural level, the Ambassador underlined the importance of the organization and participation of the Moroccan Embassy in Canberra to a number of events enabling to promote the image of the Kingdom which is a culturally rich and diverse country, attracting annually thousands of visitors from Australia.
Regarding relations with New Zealand, the Ambassador evoked the recent signature of two memorandums which concern the establishment of a mechanism for political consultations as well as cooperation on the economic, technical and cultural levels between Rabat and Wellington. This reflects, according to him, the excellent ties between Morocco and New Zealand, two countries committed to work together in order to develop and strengthen their relations at all levels.
Moreover, Mr. MEDREK tackled, through this interview, the significance of the reinforcement of relations with the countries of the pacific region, especially when it comes to cooperation within the framework of the fight against the negative effects of climate change. Besides, he noted the positive impacts of the forum “Morocco-Pacific Island countries” launched in 2013 in order to strengthen cooperation in a number of domains.
