Morocco Reiterates its 'Constant and Clear' Position Regarding Polisario’s Presence in the Buffer Zone

Morocco reiterates its "constant and clear" position regarding any action of the polisario separatist front in the buffer zone, said, Thursday in Rabat, minister delegate for Relations with Parliament and civil society, government spokesman, Mustapha El Khalfi. 

"The position vis-à-vis any presence or action of the separatist front is a constant, clear and definitive position, which was expressed by HM King Mohammed VI in a letter to the United Nations last March," El Khalfi stressed at a press briefing after the weekly Cabinet meeting.

HM King Mohammed VI gave the symbolic name of "AL BORAQ" to the Moroccan project of the high-speed rail line linking Tangier to Casablanca, says Thursday the National Railways Office (ONCF). 

AL BORAQ, name of the fantastic winged mount, evokes speed and travel. Easily memorable, it reflects the meaning and culturally strong values carried by an ambitious and large-scale project that bolsters national pride, stresses the ONCF in a statement.

Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Sheikh Mohamed Ibn Abdelkarim Al-Issa, praised, on Wednesday in Rabat, Morocco’s "active" role, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, in the fight against all forms of extremism, notably through supporting the action of Ulema.

Morocco, Niger Sign MoU to Promote Cooperation in Environmental Governance

Morocco and Niger signed, on Wednesday in Rabat, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation and coordination in the areas of environmental governance, liquid sanitation and waste management.

Signed by secretary of State for Sustainable Development, Nezha El Ouafi, and Niger's minister of Environment, Urban Environmental Sanitation and Sustainable Development, Almoustapha Garba, the memorandum also addresses climate change and nationally determined contributions, biodiversity as well as environmental and sustainable development education.

Morocco Keen to Enhance Cooperation with UNCTAD, Official

Morocco is keen to step up cooperation with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), State Secretary for Foreign Trade, Rakiya Eddarhem, said Monday in Geneva.

This came in a meeting with the UNCTAD's Secretary-General, Mukhisa Kituyi, on the sidelines of the 3rd Session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Consumer Protection Law and Policy held on July 9-10 in Geneva, the State Secretariat for Foreign Trade said in a release.

South-African Think-tank Lauds Morocco's 'Humanist and Responsible' Migration Strategy

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) praised Morocco's migration policy, noting that this strategy is "comprehensive, humanist and responsible."

In 2013, Morocco introduced a new migration strategy that authorities said was ‘more comprehensive, humanist and responsible’, the Pretoria-based think-tank said in a new report.

In 2014 and 2016, some 50,000 migrants were allowed to legalise their presence in the country with a one-year residence permit, which was extended to three years in 2017, it added.

Morocco's Marita Group Holding has announced it has signed an agreement with Triton Solar USA to form a partnership to sell, develop and operate a pipeline of Nanotechnology next-generation lithium-ion batteries for the African market, US information website Newswire reports.

Marita Group will provide Engineering, Procurement and Sales, Construction ("EPC") and Operations and Maintenance ("O&M") services to the projects, the source added.

The two parties have also signed an MOU to form a partnership for the introduction of cancer detection test kits to Africa.

  Morocco will take part in the 8th ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, which will open on Tuesday in Beijing.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, will chair the Moroccan delegation to this meeting, to be attended notably by the secretary general of the Arab League, in the presence of Chinese president, Xi Jinping, who will give a speech on this occasion.

The Forum, initiated in 2004, is a high-level platform for dialogue and cooperation between China and the Arab World.

Tourism Observatory :Tourist Arrivals in Morocco Up 9% in May

A total of 4.1 million tourists visited Morocco between January and May 2018, up 9% compared to the same period a year earlier, the Tourism Observatory said.

The number of foreign tourists increased by 15%, while the arrivals of Moroccans living abroad fell by 1%, the Observatory added in its statistics for the month of May 2018.

The increase was recorded in the main tourist markets, in particular Italy (+ 16%), Germany (+ 12%), France (+ 8%), the Netherlands (+ 8%), the United Kingdom (+ 7%) and Spain (+ 4%), the source noted.

Speaker of the House of Representatives (Morocco's lower house), Habib El Malki, represented on Monday in Ankara HM King Mohammed VI at the inauguration ceremony of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by 22 heads of state and 28 prime ministers and parliament speakers from different countries.

Speaker of Turkey's Grand National Assembly (parliament), Ismail Kahraman, lauded on Monday the relations between his country and Morocco.
