IMF Executive Board Approves US$3 billion for Morocco under Precautionary and Liquidity Line

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved on Monday a two-year arrangement for Morocco under the Precautionary and Liquidity Line (PLL) for about US$ 3 billion, the Department of Treasury and External Finance (DTFE) at the ministry of Economy and Finance said.

“Despite a sharp pick up in global oil prices, the Moroccan authorities have reduced fiscal and external vulnerabilities and implemented important reforms with the support of three consecutive 24-month PLL arrangements,” the IMF said in a press release.

Norwegian Ambassador Calls for Not Giving in To Fear Following Murder of Two Scandinavian Tourists

Norway's ambassador in Rabat Merethe Nergaard called, on Saturday in Rabat, for "not giving in to fear" following the murder of two Scandinavian tourists of Norwegian and Danish nationalities in Imlil, Al Haouz province, stressing that extremist and radical forces are isolated.

It's in everyone's best interest to remain united in the fight against extremism, Nergaard told MAP, saying that Norway and Morocco will remain allies in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

France, Spain Determined to Reinforce Cooperation with Morocco to Combat Illegal Migration

France and Spain have agreed to strengthen their coordination for cooperation with Morocco in the fight against illegal migration, underlining the importance of the EU financial support for Morocco's efforts in this field.

Cooperation with Morocco was discussed, on Thursday, during talks in Paris between Laurent Nunez, French Secretary of State for the Interior and Ana Botella, Spanish Secretary of State for Security, who agreed to promote cooperation in the fight against illegal migration to match the level of security cooperation.

The state ministry for human rights, the national council for human rights, Bank Al-Maghrib (central bank) and Barid Al-Maghrib (postal services) organized, on Thursday in Rabat, a ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The ceremony was marked by a message sent by HM King Mohammed VI and read out by HM the King's advisor Abdeltif Menouni.

Morocco denies the circulation by a Mauritanian citizen of images of alleged Moroccan passports supposed to belong to Mauritanian President, H.E. Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Thursday.

Moroccan authorities are aware of the circulation on social networks by Mauritanian national Mohamed Ould Bouamatou of images of alleged Moroccan passports, supposed to belong to the Mauritanian President and a member of his family, the ministry said in a statement.

The Secretary General of the United Nations (UNSG) Antonio Guterres received, on Wednesday at UN Headquarters, Morocco's permanent representative to the UN, ambassador Omar, Hiale in the presence of Special Representative of the Secretary General for International Migration, Louise Arbour.

On this occasion, the Moroccan diplomat handed to Guterres the official gavel of the Marrakech Conference, which adopted, on 10 December, the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

South Korean PM Starts Friendship and Working Visit to Morocco

South Korean Prime minister, Lee Nak-yeon, arrived Thursday in Rabat for a friendship and working visit to Morocco, leading a large delegation composed of members of the government, officials and businessmen.

Upon his arrival at the Rabat-Salé airport, Nak-yeon was greeted by head of government, Saâd Dine El Otmani.

UNGA Endorses Marrakech Global Compact on Migration, Congratulates Morocco

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted on Wednesday, by an overwhelming majority, a resolution endorsing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, henceforth known as the Marrakech Compact on Migration.

The landmark document was adopted on December, 10, at the United Nations Intergovernmental Conference on Migration, held in Marrakech.

HM King Mohammed VI laid, on Wednesday, the foundation stone of a new terminal at the Rabat-Sale airport and launched the first engine of the new generation of planes of Royal Air Maroc (Moroccan carrier-RAM), a newly-purchased Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

Totaling 1.641 billion dirhams, the airport's extension is a structuring project meant to back up the continuously-growing passenger traffic and the socio-economic development taking place in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region.

Central Bank: Morocco's Growth Would Stand at 3.3% in 2018 & at 3.1% in 2019

Morocco’s growth would stand at 3.3% in 2018, as against 4.1% in 2017, while it is expected to slow to 3.1% in 2019 before rising to 3.6% in 2020, according to the Central Bank.

"HCP data for the second quarter indicate an economic activity level well below expectations. Taking account of these results and the available infra-annual indicators, growth would stand at 3.3 percent in 2018, as against 4.1 percent in 2017", and to slow to 3.1% in 2019 before rising to 3.6% in 2020, said the Bank in a statement issued Tuesday after the last quarterly meeting of its Board for 2018.

Lower House Adopts at Second Reading 2019 Appropriation Draft Bill

The house of representatives (lower house) adopted by a majority, at second reading, the 2019 appropriation draft bill, during a plenary session on Tuesday.

The text was approved by 158 MPs and rejected by 56, with no abstentions.

On this occasion, pro-government groups affirmed that the bill is the culmination of the government's efforts to control spending and the deficit rate and ensure the continuity of mega projects.
