Tourist Arrivals Up 8.5% in Morocco by End of November

A total of 11.3 million tourists visited Morocco in the first eleven months of 2018, up 8.5% compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the Tourism Observatory.

The number of foreign tourists increased by 15%, while the arrivals of Moroccan expatriates rose by 2%, said the Observatory which has just published its statistics on tourism in Morocco for November 2018.

The increase of foreign tourists concerns several countries, including Italy (+ 15%), Germany (+ 10%), France (+ 8%) and Spain (+ 6%), the source added.

Secretary-general of the Al-Quds National People's Congress Bilal Naticha commended, on Sunday in Ramalah, the role and action of HM King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, in support of the cause of the Holy City.

During a meeting with Morocco's ambassador to Palestine, Mohamed El Hemzaoui, Naticha highlighted the historical role of HM the King in the service of the city of Al-Quds and its inhabitants, the Palestinian news agency (Wafa) reported.

Government Council Adopts Agreement on Extradition between Morocco and India

The Council of government adopted, on Thursday, bill 99.18 approving an agreement on extradition between Morocco and India, signed on 13 November 2018 in New Delhi, said government spokesman, Mustapha El Khalfi.

Presented by the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the agreement aims to consolidate cooperation between the two countries in the fight against organized crime and terrorism and in the area of extradition, El Khalfi said at a press briefing following the Council's weekly meeting.

Film Sector: 100 mln DH Granted in 2018

The amount of subsidies allocated to the film sector has reached 100 million dirhams (DH) in 2018, the ministry of Culture and Communication said in a statement.

In 2018, 23 million Dirhams was allocated to film festivals in addition to a budget of 2 million DH dedicated to the support of cinemas, said minister of Culture and Communication Mohamed Laâraj, who chaired on Thursday a meeting of the board of directors of the Moroccan Cinema Centre (CCM).

Morocco's Net International Reserves Down 4.6%

Morocco's net international reserves amounted to 228.2 billion dirhams until December 21, 2018, recording a 4.6% year-on-year decrease, Morocco's central bank (Bank Al-Maghrib) said.

During the week of December 20-26, Bank Al-Maghrib injected 65.3 billion dirhams.

As for the interbank rate, it has remained at 2.27%, the source added in a press release.

During the same period, the Dirham appreciated by 0.12% against the Euro and by 0.06% against the Dollar.

Head of government Saad Dine El Otmani hailed, on Thursday in Rabat, the huge efforts by the various security services to ensure security and stability in the Kingdom.

Morocco and Palestine signed Wednesday in Rabat a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop the capacity of the two countries' public prosecutors departments to fight crime, corruption, money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

Under this agreement, signed at a meeting between Morocco’s public prosecutor, Mohamed Abdennabaoui, and Palestinian Attorney General Ahmed Barak, both parties pledge to exchange legal publications, as well as researches relating in particular to the development of the action of the two institutions, said a statement by the Public Ministry.

No Moroccans Among Victims of Tripoli Terrorist Attack, Libyan Foreign Ministry

The Libyan Foreign Affairs Ministry denied, on Wednesday, that a Moroccan national was killed in the terrorist attack perpetrated, the day before, against the ministry's headquarters in Tripoli.

"Information about the presence of a Moroccan national among the victims of this attack are completely baseless," the spokesman of the Libyan Foreign Affairs Ministry in the National Union Government Ahmed Al-Arbade told MAP, adding that "all the victims of this attack are of Libyan nationality".

MAP, WAM Agreed to Promote Cooperation in Multimedia

The Moroccan News Agency (MAP) and the Emirates News Agency (WAM) agreed to strengthen their cooperation to develop multimedia products.

This willingness was expressed at a meeting held, Tuesday in Rabat, between MAP director general, Khalil Hachimi Idrissi, and WAM executive director, Mohamed Jalal Al Rayssi.

In this regard, the two parties agreed to renew in the coming weeks the agreement signed in 2011, in order to integrate into the scope of bilateral cooperation the whole range of digital products made available to the clients of the two agencies.
