EU Reiterates its Call for Registration of Tindouf Camps Population

The European Union (EU) reiterated on Wednesday before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly its call for the registration by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) of the population in the Tindouf camps, in Algerian territory, as repeatedly requested by the Security Council.

Illegal Immigration: Madrid Calls for Increasing EU's Support to Morocco

The Spanish minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, Josep Borrell, called for an increase in the European Union's (EU) support to Morocco in order to tackle the phenomenon of illegal immigration.

"Morocco is not well treated in terms of the aid granted by the European Union - for the fight against illegal immigration," the Spanish minister told the Joint Committee of Congress of Deputies-Senate for the EU on Wednesday.

Turkey receives, in this context, 6 billion Euros from the EU, while Morocco receives only about 50 million Euros, he pointed out.

The Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly adopted Wednesday without a vote a resolution reiterating support for the UN-led political process aimed at settling the Moroccan Sahara issue and called upon the countries in the region to cooperate fully with the Secretary General and his Personal Envoy, and with each other, in order to reach a political settlement to this regional dispute.

Train Derailment near Rabat: Spain Expresses Solidarity with Morocco

Spain has expressed its solidarity with Morocco following the train derailment on Tuesday morning of a train between the cities of Rabat and Kenitra, leaving 7 passengers dead and nearly 125 wounded.

The Spanish government "wishes to express, on behalf of the Spanish people and in these sad moments, its solidarity with the authorities and the people of Morocco, a friendly country, neighbor and strategic partner," the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation said in a statement.

At a ceremony held on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (WBG-IMF) held on Oct. 8-14 in the Indonesian island of Bali, Jouahri was awarded a trophy for receiving an “A” grade in Global Finance’s annual Central Banker Report Cards 2018.
