Tourism: Spain Set to Step up Cooperation with Morocco

Spain is determined to advance its cooperation with Morocco in tourism, Spanish Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, said Wednesday in Madrid.

"Spain and Morocco are two very close friends that share a common history and are linked by strong relations" in several areas,” Maroto told MAP at the end of talks with Morocco’s minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicrafts and Social Economy, Mohamed Sajid, on the sidelines of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which kicked off Wednesday in Madrid.

The share of renewable energy in the national electricity mix reached 35% at the end of 2018, with an installed capacity of more than 2,965 MW, said, Wednesday in Rabat, minister of Energy, Mining and Sustainable Development, Aziz Rabbah.

The ministry is working to develop an additional capacity of about 10,000 MW of renewable energy, divided into 4,500 MW solar, 4,200 MW wind and 1,300 MW hydroelectric by 2030, Rabbah noted at the opening of a media day initiated by the ministry.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, co-chairs with his Omani peer, Yusuf bin Alawi, the 5th Morocco-Oman Joint Commission, which is being held on 6-7 January in Muscat.

Co-chaired by the Foreign ministers of both countries, this session is the first of its kind. Since its creation in 1995, the Morocco-Oman Joint Commission has been chaired by ministers of technical departments.

The Commission held its last session in December 2010 under the chairmanship of the minister of Employment and Training and his Omani counterpart.
