Minister of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicrafts and Social Economy Mohamed Sajid, held, Monday in Lisbon, talks with Portuguese minister of Planning and Infrastructure Pedro Marques, on ways to promote bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of air transport.

In a statement to the press at the end of the meeting, Marques praised the excellent cooperation between Portugal and Morocco, expressing the wish to deepen this collaboration even further in the years to come.

The meeting of the Moroccan-U.S Initiative to address homegrown terrorism, devoted to the finalization of good practices document on the prevention, detection, intervention and response to homegrown terrorism, opened Monday in Rabat.

This initiative, launched under the auspices of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), is led by the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States, in collaboration with the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law (IIJ), says a statement by the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The new fisheries protocol with the European Union (EU) will preserve Morocco's fishery resources, said head of the European Union Delegation in Rabat, ambassador Claudia Wiedey.

In a meeting with speaker of the House of Representatives, Habib El Malki, the European official stressed that the procedures for the renewal of the agriculture agreement and the fisheries protocol are being "carried out in the normal way", reviewing the progress made on the negotiations for the renewal of this agreement.

Over 187,130 Candidates from Public, Private Schoolds Earn High School Degree

187,138 candidates from public and private schoolds got their high school degree called "Baccalaureate" during the June 2018 session, that is a 57.36% success rate, against 50.28% posted last year, announced the national education Ministry on Friday.

The same source added that female graduates were 103,567, that is a 55.34% success rate, noting that 92,771 candidates got a distinction, that is 49.58% of the total number of graduates.

The UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Horst Kohler, will start Saturday a ten-day visit to the region, the UN announced on Thursday.

"I can confirm that Horst Kohler, the Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for the Sahara, will be touring the region again from 23 June to 1 July 2018," said UN spokesman Farhan Haq.

The visit aims to "deepen Kohler's understanding of the reality on the ground, and discuss how to move forward in the UN-led political process, in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2414," he underlined.

The theme of this edition is the consolidation of achievements made in the fight against terrorism through solidarity and development actions.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State to Visit Morocco at the End of June

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, John J. Sullivan, will visit Morocco at the end of June, as part of a regional tour, said Thursday the U.S Department of State.

During his stay in Morocco, the Deputy Secretary "will meet with senior government officials to discuss a range of political, economic, and security issues," the same source said in a statement.

“Morocco's important contributions to the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS” will be on the agenda of these discussions, the Department of State noted.

Participatory Banks in Morocco: 71 Agencies Created, over 1 Billion Dirham of Loans Granted

Since their launch in July 2017, participatory banks, currently numbering 71 branches, have reached a credit volume of 1.1 billion dirhams, said the Wali of Morocco's Central Bank (Bank Al-Maghrib), Abdellatif Jouahri.

"Currently, Morocco counts over 71 participatory agencies (…) and they are constantly multiplying," Jouahri told a press conference at the end of the second quarterly meeting in 2018 of the Bank’s Board, adding that the volume of credits granted by these new entities, since their creation, has amounted to 1.1 billion dirham.

Tourist Arrivals in Morocco Up 12% at the end of April (Tourism Observatory)

A total of 3.4 million tourists visited Morocco between January and April 2018, up 12% compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the Tourism Observatory.

The number of foreign tourists increased by 19%, while the arrivals of Moroccans living abroad grew by 1%, said the Observatory in its statistics on Moroccan tourism for the month of April 2018.

This increase concerned the main tourist markets, in particular Italy (18%), Germany (+14%), France (11%), the United Kingdom and Holland (10% each), the Observatory noted.
