Five Deaths due to H1N1 flu in Morocco, Minister of Health

Five deaths from the H1N1 flu have been reported in public and private facilities, Health Minister Anas Doukkali said on Thursday, underlining that the deaths concern mainly vulnerable people.

In a statement to MAP, Doukkali said that the H1N1 flu is the dominant subtype this year, like all countries in the world, reassuring that the Ministry of Health is still maintaining the epidemiological watch.

Security Council Holds Consultations on Moroccan Sahara Issue in Presence of UNSG Personal Envoy

The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday held consultations in New York on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, in the presence of the UNSG Personal Envoy for the Sahara Horst Köhler, who briefed the Council members on his latest efforts to relaunch talks.

Köhler told the Council’s members that he intends to hold a new round table next March similar to the one held in Geneva last December, which would be preceded by bilateral meetings with the parties, ambassadors of the Security Council’s member countries told reporters at the end of the closed consultations.

Sahara: Council of Socialist International Adopts Recommendation in Support of Negotiated Political Solution

The Council of the Socialist International (SI), convened on Jan. 28-29 in the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo, adopted a recommendation in support of the search for a negotiated political solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue.

Morocco, Guinea Determined to Broaden Cooperation

Morocco and the Republic of Guinea are determined to broaden their cooperation and build more bridges between the two countries in the different areas, said a statement from the department of the head of government.

The meeting, on Tuesday in Rabat, between head of government Saad Dine El Otamni and speaker of the National Assembly of Guinea Claude Kory Kondiano, who is on a working visit to Morocco, was an the occasion to underline the quality of the long-standing relations of friendship and the excellent level of political coordination, said the same source.

Sahara Issue: Colombian Congress Reaffirms its Support to Morocco's Autonomy Plan

Venezuela intends to "reconsider its recognition of the SADR under the government of interim President Juan Guaido," said, on Tuesday in Caracas, Manuel Avendano, foreign affairs advisor at the Venezuelan National Assembly (Parliament), the only opposition-controlled body.

"Venezuela will reconsider its recognition of the Saharawi Republic under the government of Guaido," Avendano said in a statement to MAP, noting that the SADR recognition is more related to the Left ideologies, like those of Nicolas Maduro's regime.

High Speed Rail "Al Boraq", inaugurated by HM King Mohammed VI and French president Emmanuel Macron, last November, is another mega project that places Morocco on the fast track to progress, wrote US business website "Business Insider".

"It's important to remember that the bullet train is far from the only big-ticket infrastructure project the Moroccan government has invested in. Over the past decade, the country has developed numerous ports and a $600 million solar plant considered the biggest in the world," said the US website.

Morocco's Net International Reserves Down 4.7%

Morocco's net international reserves amounted to 229 billion dirhams until January 18, 2019, recording a 4.7% year-on-year decrease, Morocco's central bank (Bank Al-Maghrib) said.

During the week of January 17-23, Bank Al-Maghrib injected 70.5 billion dirhams.

As for the interbank rate, it has reached 2.27%, the source added in a press release.

During the same period, the Dirham appreciated by 0.15% against the Euro and depreciated by 0.15% against the Dollar.

Russian FM : Sahara Issue Requires Consensual Solution Pursuant to UNSC Resolutions

The Sahara conflict requires a consensual solution in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and with the involvement of all parties concerned, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Friday in Rabat.

Speaking at a joint press briefing with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita Lavrov stressed that this long-running conflict requires a rapid consensual solution based on Security Council resolutions exclusively and with the involvement of all parties concerned.

"We share the same vision of our Moroccan friends" in this regard, said Lavrov.
