FAR Inspector General Receives Lieutenant General Carlos Humberto Loitey, Military Adviser for UN Peacekeeping Operations

 Upon high instructions of HM the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), Lieutenant-General, Inspector General of FAR, received, Monday in Rabat, Lieutenant General Carlos Humberto Loitey of Uruguay, Military Adviser for UN Peacekeeping Operations.

According to a statement by FAR General Staff, talks between the two officials focused on the participation of the Royal Armed Forces in peacekeeping missions under the aegis of the UN Organization and their contribution to efforts for the achievement of peace in Africa.

Cocaine Seized at Casablanca Port is 97 % Pure: BCIJ

Forensic testing conducted on samples of the cocaine seized at the Port of Casablanca showed that the drug is 97 percent pure, which is an indication of its high market value, Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) said on Monday.

Morocco: 3,833 Publications Edited in 2016-2017, up 16%

A total of 3,833 books and magazines were published in 2016-2017 in Morocco, an increase of 16% compared with the previous year (3,304 publications), according to the annual report of the King Abdul-Aziz Al Saud Foundation.

The majority of publications were written in Arabic (more than 80%), against 16% in French, less than 2% in Amazigh, 0.7% in English and 0.5% in Spanish, the source added.

French Group Alstom to Supply 30 Electric Locomotives to Morocco's Railway Office

French group Alstom has been awarded a 1.4 billion Dirham-contract with Morocco’s Railway Office (ONCF) for the supply of 30 electric locomotives.

This came as part of an international tender launched by ONCF within the framework of its development strategy for the acquisition of 30 new electric locomotives, the Railway Office said in a release.

It is being entirely financed by a 40-year French government loan with a grace period of 10 years and an interest rate of 0.0016%, the source added.

Public Prosecutor Mohamed Abdennabaoui held talks on Friday in Rabat with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Fatou Bensouda.

The meeting focused on the means to develop bilateral cooperation in judicial matters.

541 Kg of Cocaine Seized in Container at Casablanca Port

Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) seized 541 kg of cocaine concealed in a shipping container from South America at the port of Casablanca.

This operation which took place on the basis of accurate information provided by the general directorate for national territory surveillance (DGST) led to the arrest of 6 people, including the mastermind of this criminal network, a Brazilian national, BCIJ said Sunday in a statement.

Morocco, in the person of the acting Director General of the Electricity and Drinking Water Office (ONEE), Abderrahim El Hafidi, was unanimously re-elected on Saturday in Bamako as the president of the African Water Association (AfWA).

This re-election for a second term (2018/2020) took place at the Association's General Assembly.

Morocco has paid its regular budget assessments to the UN in full for the year 2018 which amounts to 1,312,582 US dollars, UN spokesperson Farhan Haq said on Thursday.

Morocco is among the first countries to have paid in full their regular assessments, following the adoption by the UNGA in Dec. 2017 of UN 2018-2019 Regular Budget, which means within the 30 day due period specified in Financial Regulation 3.5 (by 9 February 2018).

Morocco thus responded favourably to the request by UNSG Antonio Guterres who invited member states to pay their dues for the UN regular budget.
