Senegal Supports All Morocco’s Just Causes: FM

Senegalese Foreign minister, Sidiki Kaba, expressed on Tuesday in Dakar his country's full support for Morocco’s just causes.

"Senegal is interested by all the just causes that concern Morocco,” he told MAP following talks with a delegation of Morocco’s House of Advisors (upper house), adding that discussions touched on the “excellent” bilateral relations and the need to further step up cooperation between the two countries.

The National Plan of Action on Democracy and Human Rights 2018-2021 (PANDDH) was favorably perceived by government and human rights actors as well as by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), said, Tuesday in Rabat, minister of State for Human Rights, Mustapha Ramid.

Ramid, who was the guest of the Moroccan News Agency (MAP) forum, held under the theme "The national plan of action on democracy and human rights 2018-2021: achievements and choices," said that the PANDDH will be submitted shortly to the United Nations human rights body.

Upon the high instructions of HM the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), the Lieutenant-General, Inspector General of FAR, received, Monday in Rabat, Patricio José, vice-minister for national defence of the Republic of Mozambique.

According to a statement by FAR's general staff, the talks touched on prospects to create conditions conducive to reinforcing bilateral cooperation between the Royal Armed Forces and Mozambique's armed forces in the different areas, mainly regarding training and visit exchanges.

Road Traffic Fatalities Down 2.62% in 2017: State Secretary

The number of deaths on Moroccan roads fell by 2.62% in 2017, State Secretary for Transport, Mohamed Najib Boulif, said Monday in Rabat.

According to preliminary statistics, 3,499 deaths were recorded in 2017, compared to 3,593 in 2016, Boulif said at a meeting of the Road Security Standing Committee held on the occasion of the National Road Safety Day.

A total of 943 people died in road accidents in urban areas in 2017 recording a 4.17% year-on-year decrease, against 2,556 deaths outside urban areas (-2.03%), Boulif noted.

2017, 'Exceptional' Year for Tourism in Morocco

2017 was an "exceptional" year for the Moroccan tourism sector with a strong growth in the number of non-resident tourist arrivals, overnight stays in classified hotels and receipts in foreign currency, said the ministry of Tourism, Air Transport, Handicrafts and Social Economy.

In a statement, the ministry noted that the number of arrivals of tourists at border posts was 11.35 million in 2017, up 10% compared to 2016, i.e. more than 1 million additional tourists.

Cocaine Seized at Casablanca Port is 97 % Pure: BCIJ

Forensic testing conducted on samples of the cocaine seized at the Port of Casablanca showed that the drug is 97 percent pure, which is an indication of its high market value, Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) said on Monday.

Morocco: 3,833 Publications Edited in 2016-2017, up 16%

A total of 3,833 books and magazines were published in 2016-2017 in Morocco, an increase of 16% compared with the previous year (3,304 publications), according to the annual report of the King Abdul-Aziz Al Saud Foundation.

The majority of publications were written in Arabic (more than 80%), against 16% in French, less than 2% in Amazigh, 0.7% in English and 0.5% in Spanish, the source added.

French Group Alstom to Supply 30 Electric Locomotives to Morocco's Railway Office

French group Alstom has been awarded a 1.4 billion Dirham-contract with Morocco’s Railway Office (ONCF) for the supply of 30 electric locomotives.

This came as part of an international tender launched by ONCF within the framework of its development strategy for the acquisition of 30 new electric locomotives, the Railway Office said in a release.

It is being entirely financed by a 40-year French government loan with a grace period of 10 years and an interest rate of 0.0016%, the source added.

541 Kg of Cocaine Seized in Container at Casablanca Port

Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) seized 541 kg of cocaine concealed in a shipping container from South America at the port of Casablanca.

This operation which took place on the basis of accurate information provided by the general directorate for national territory surveillance (DGST) led to the arrest of 6 people, including the mastermind of this criminal network, a Brazilian national, BCIJ said Sunday in a statement.

Morocco Re-elected to the Presidency of the African Water Association

Morocco, in the person of the acting Director General of the Electricity and Drinking Water Office (ONEE), Abderrahim El Hafidi, was unanimously re-elected on Saturday in Bamako as the president of the African Water Association (AfWA).

This re-election for a second term (2018/2020) took place at the Association's General Assembly.

This is a renewed confidence placed in Morocco to continue to lead this prestigious association, El Hafidi told MAP, noting that this is also a recognition of Morocco’s know-how and skills in the water sector.
