1st Session of Africa Working Group of Morocco-U.S. Strategic Dialogue Held in Washington DC

Following the decision taken last September by minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, Nasser Bourita, and US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to relaunch the Morocco-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, the first session of the Africa working group related to the said Dialogue was held Tuesday in Washington, D.C.

This meeting, which was marked by the participation of a large Moroccan delegation led by Mohcine Jazouli, minister delegate for African cooperation, reflects the shared will of the two countries to give an African dimension to their strategic partnership.

UN: Morocco Re-elected to Lead Central African Republic Configuration of Peacebuilding Commission

Morocco's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Omar Hilale, was re-elected by acclamation as Chair of the Central African Republic Configuration of the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC), a subsidiary body of both the Security Council and the General Assembly.

The re-election of the Moroccan diplomat for the fifth year at the head of this body is a sign of confidence of the international community and the United Nations in the role played by the kingdom in strengthening and promoting peace in the world, in general, and Africa in particular.

Seasonal Flu: The Situation is “Not Worrying” (WHO and Ministry of Health)

The current situation with regard to seasonal influenza "should in no way worry the population," said Tuesday the Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the ministry of health following information reported by newspapers and social media about deaths due to this disease.

"The WHO and the Ministry of Health are monitoring the situation very closely and recommend the usual preventive measures," they said in a joint statement.

Over 200k Passengers Took Al-Buraq High-speed Train in January

Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, Abdelkader Amara, said, Tuesday in Rabat, that more than 200,000 passengers took the Al-Buraq high-speed train in January 2019, compared to some 168,000 passengers in December, i.e. an increase of 19 pc.

In response to an oral question on the Al-Buraq high-speed train, presented by the Constitutional, Democratic and Social group at the House of Advisors, Amara noted that this increase had an impact on the fill rate, which rose from 40pc when the service was launched to 70pc.

Morocco-Germany: Loans and Grants of 330.5 Million Euros to Support Sustainable Development

Morocco and Germany signed, Tuesday in Rabat, two financial cooperation arrangements for a total of 330.5 million euros in the form of loans and grants, focusing on sustainable development.

These cooperation arrangements were signed by minister of Economy and Finance, Mohamed Benchaaboun, and the German ambassador in Rabat, Götz Schmidt-Bremme.

Minister of Culture and Communication, Mohamed Laaraj, held talks Monday in Rabat with Chile’s ambassador to Morocco, Alex Geiger Soffia.

The talks focused on the ways to step up bilateral cooperation in the areas of culture, art and literature, the ministry of culture said in a statement.

During the meeting, the Chilean diplomat lauded relations between the two countries in several fields, expressing his willingness to enhance these relations and expand bilateral cooperation to the cultural sphere.

Ministry of Health: H1N1 Flu: Death Toll Rises to 11

The death toll due to H1N1 virus has risen to 11, the ministry of health said on Sunday.

Out of a total of 58 cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARIs) treated at public hospitals and private clinics and tested positive for influenza A subtype H1N1, 15 Patients have fully recovered, 32 are still on treatment and another 11 patients have died, the ministry added in a statement.

These deaths are due to complications associated with at least one factor of vulnerability, namely pregnancy, chronic diseases, advanced age and very young age, the ministry explained.

Seasonal Flu: The Epidemiological Situation is not Worrying

The epidemiological situation in Morocco is not different from that of previous years and is not worrying given the mobilization of doctors and the ministry of health in the face of seasonal influenza, head of government, Saad Dine El Otmani, said Sunday in Rabat.

Speaking to reporters during a visit to the University Hospital Center (CHU) Ibn Rochd, along with the minister of health, Anass Doukkali, El Otamni said that all cases that require special care are looked after, noting that there is no need to panic.

The UN Security Council, on Thursday, adopted a statement to the press expressing its support for the UNSG Personal Envoy Horst Köhler, in conducting his mandate of facilitating a political solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

The adoption of this statement follows Köhler's briefing at the Security Council, on 29 January 2019, on the latest developments in the political process under the exclusive auspices of the United Nations, notably the holding of the Geneva round-table meeting on 5th and 6th December 2018.
