EBRD President to Visit Morocco on Feb. 20

President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Suma Chakrabarti, will pay a visit to Morocco on February 20th, said Friday the bank in a statement.

During his visit to the Kingdom, Chakrabarti will hold talks with several Moroccan officials on strengthening cooperation with the EBRD, said the same source.

The Moroccan pavilion won the prize of the best communication and design stand during the 27th international travel fair "Holiday World".

This fair, organized by INCHEBA EXPO PRAHA, is the most important event in the travel industry not only in the Czech Republic but also in Central Europe.

The organizers said that the prize which was granted to Morocco is well-deserved and rewards the genuine design inspired by architecture traditions that characterize the spirit of the Moroccan history.

Dubai: Morocco Takes Part in 'Gulfood 2018'

Morocco is taking part in the 32nd food trade show "Gulfood 2018", which opened on Sunday in Dubai.

The Kingdom is represented in this event that brings together some 180 countries and covers an area of 100,000 m2, by 60 companies operating in the food industry.

According to the organizers, the exhibition is expected to attract more than 90,000 visitors and 5,000 exhibitors from the sectors of beverage, dairy, fat, oil, health products, organic matter, cereals, meat and poultry.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Habib El Malki held, Friday in Rabat, talks with Speaker of the Portuguese Parliament Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues on means to strengthen parliamentary cooperation.

Speaking at a press briefing after the talks, El Malki said the meeting reflects the depth of relations between Morocco and Portugal and the quality of the links between the legislative institutions of the two countries.

Morocco and Senegal agreed to give new impetus to bilateral cooperation in the field of justice, said, Thursday in Rabat, Justice minister, Mohamed Aujjar.

In a statement to the press after talks with Senegalese Justice minister, Ismaïla Madior Fall, Aujjar stressed that Senegal wishes to benefit from the Moroccan experience in the field of justice, noting that the Kingdom has embarked on deep reforms in the management of justice, notably the independence of the judiciary with a public prosecutor's office freed from the supervision of the executive branch.

2026 World Cup: Government will Honour Commitments to Win the Bid

The government is mobilized to support Morocco’s bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Head of Government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, said on Thursday.

El Othmani added at the Cabinet weekly meeting that the government will fulfil all the "necessary commitments" to win the bid for the 2026 tournament.

The government supports the rich program set up by the Bid Committee and will interact positively with this program through proposals and remarks, he pointed out.

French Operator Voltalia Obtains Permits for two Hydropower Plants in Morocco

French renewable power plants operator “Voltalia” has obtained permits for two hydropower plants of 9.8 MW and 7.2 MW in Morocco.

The permits, delivered by the Moroccan ministry for Energy in parallel to the “Photovoltaica” congress of renewable energies in Marrakech, relate to two hydropower plants projects of 9.8 MW and 7.2 MW, located in the Middle-Atlas region, Voltalia said in a press release.

Morocco to Invest $40 bln to Develop Energy Sector by 2030

Morocco is implementing an ambitious strategy to develop the energy sector that will require investments of $ 40 billion by 2030, including $ 30 billion for renewable energies, minister of Energy, Mining and Sustainable Development, Aziz Rabbah, said Wednesday in Casablanca.

Morocco has more than 14,000 Koranic Schools, Minister Says

The number of Koranic schools in Morocco has reached 14,122, about 92% of which are mosque-based, Minister of endowment and Islamic affairs, Ahmed Taoufiq, said Tuesday in Rabat.

Speaking at the House of Advisors (upper house), the minister said that the number of students at these schools stands at 426,424.

A total of 5,082 authorizations were granted between 2005 and 2017 for the opening of Koranic schools, including 3,027 authorizations in 2017, he added.

Morocco's Dam Storage Capacity Stands at 40.1% by Feb. 13

Dam's storage capacity in Morocco stood at 40.1% as of February 13, 2018, which is a total storage of 6.1 billion cubic meters (m3), according to the State Secretary for Water.

This level is lower than the one reported during the same period in 2017, when stored volumes of water in dams stood at about 8.3 billion cubic meters, which is a storage capacity of 54.4%, the source added.

The dams of Garde Sebou, Nakhla, Bouhouda and Sidi Said Maachou recorded a fill rate of 100% by Feb. 13, the source added.
