Government Chief Meets in Marrakesh with Spanish PM

Head of government Saad Dine El Otmani met, on Monday in Marrakesh, with Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez, on the sidelines of the Intergovernmental Conference on Migration, which was marked by the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

The two top officials examined issues related to the phenomenon of migration and shared viewpoints on this matter.

HM King Mohammed VI offered, Monday in Marrakech, a luncheon in honor of participants in the Intergovernmental Conference on Migration, chaired by Head of government, Saad Dine Otmani.

The luncheon was mainly attended by the United Nation Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres and heads of delegations taking part in this international conference, which has witnessed the formal adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

European Parliament's Committee on Budgets Votes in Favor of Adopting Morocco-EU Fisheries Agreement

The European Parliament's Committee on Budgets voted, Monday evening, in favor of the adoption of the fisheries agreement between Morocco and the European Union (EU).

The notice relating to this agreement and its implementation protocol, as well as the exchange of letters accompanying it, were adopted by a large majority of the members of this parliamentary committee which decides on EU budgetary matters.

This vote comes a few days after the adoption of this agreement by the Council of the European Union.

Head of government Saad Dine El Otmani met, on Monday in Marrakesh, with Paraguay's foreign minister Luis Alberto Castiglioni, on the sidelines of the Intergovernmental Conference on Migration, which was marked by the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

During the meeting, the two officials reaffirmed the excellent relations between Morocco and Paraguay, which have a common platform on the political level that would enable Rabat and Asuncion to further develop their cultural and economic relations.

The Intergovernmental Conference on the Global Compact for Migration opened Monday in Marrakech, in the presence of the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and several heads of State and Government.

The opening session was marked by the election of Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, as President of this Conference, during which the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration will be formally adopted.

GCC Stresses Importance of its Strategic Partnership with Morocco

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) stresses Sunday in Riyadh the importance of its strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco.

"The Council underlines the importance of cooperation and partnership with sister and friendly countries, including Jordan and Morocco," the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council said in the final statement following its 39th meeting in Riyadh.

Spanish PM to Travel Monday to Marrakech to Participate in Intergovernmental Conference on Global Compact for Migration

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will travel to Marrakech on Monday to take part in the UN Intergovernmental Conference on the Global Compact for Migration (Dec. 10-11).

Sanchez will deliver a speech at the conference, the Spanish government's presidency said on Saturday.

The conference is aimed at formally adopting the Global Compact for Migration, as agreed by the Member States of the United Nations on the 13th of July, 2018.

According to the United Nations, no less than 150 member states will take part in the two-day event.

UNGA Reaffirms Support to Political Process Aimed at Settling Moroccan Sahara Issue

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted on Friday, without a vote, a resolution approved by the 4th Committee in last October, which reiterates support to the UN-led political process aimed at settling the regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.

The resolution thus supports the political process based on the Security Council resolutions adopted since 2007, with a view to reaching a "fair, sustainable and mutually acceptable" solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue and praises efforts made in this regard by the UN Secretary General and his personal envoy.

Morocco-Mauritania Forum: CGEM Head to Lead Large Delegation

President of the Moroccan Employers' Association (CGEM), Salaheddine Mezouar, will lead a large delegation of economic operators that will participate in the economic forum Morocco-Mauritania, scheduled for December 16-18 in Nouakchott.

The Forum, co-organized by the CGEM and the National Union of Mauritanian Employers, will explore business and investment opportunities and boost trade between the private sectors of the two countries, CGEM said in a statement.

On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation will hold B2B meetings and visit Nouadhibou’s free zone.

European Commissioner Avramopoulos to Lead EU Delegation to Marrakesh Conference on Global Compact for Migration

European Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos will visit Marrakesh on Dec. 9-11 and will lead the European Union (EU) delegation to the Intergovernmental Conference on the Global Compact for Migration scheduled in the same city.

Avramopoulos will represent the EU, which is participating as an observer in the Marrakesh conference, organized by the UN to adopt the Global Compact for safe, orderly and regular migration, said on Friday a statement from the European Commission.

UN Secretary General Travels to Morocco to Participate in Marrakech Intergovernmental Conference on Migration

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will travel to Morocco this weekend to take part in the Marrakech Intergovernmental Conference (10-11 December) for the official adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, his spokesman announced Friday in New York.

In Marrakech, Guterres will also take part, on Monday, in a high-level meeting to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as will several former United Nations High Commissioners for Human Rights, spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said at a press briefing.

A round-table meeting on the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara started, on Wednesday, at the Palace of Nations in Geneva, with the participation of a Moroccan delegation led by foreign minister Nasser Bourita.

The Moroccan delegation's participation comes following the invitation by UNSG personal envoy Horst Köhler, sent on Sept. 28 and Nov. 23, 2018, to Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the polisario.

Andean Parliament Reiterates Support for Autonomy Initiative as Definitive Solution to Sahara Conflict

President of the Andean Parliament, Hugo Quiroz Vallejo, reiterated on Wednesday in Rabat his support for the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco as a definitive solution to the artificial conflict over the Sahara, within the framework of the Kingdom's sovereignty.

During talks with speaker of the House of Advisors, Hakim Benchamach, Quiroz Vallejo affirmed the Andean Parliament's determination to support Morocco's serious efforts to promote dialogue and seek peaceful solutions to conflicts.
