Spanish Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido, on Wednesday in Athens, underscored Morocco's huge effort in fighting illegal immigration, describing it as "fundamental" for controlling the inflow of illegal immigrants towards the European Union (EU).

"Morocco deserves, in our opinion, a special mention" for its efforts in this area, said Zoido in an meeting with Greek Minister for Migration Policy Dimitris Vitsas, and Greek Deputy Minister of civil defence Nikos Toskas.

MINURSO Refuses to Meet with Polisario Outside Rabbouni, UN

The UN Mission in the Sahara (MINURSO) refuses to meet with Polisario leaders outside Rabbouni, in Algeria, the venue where such meetings have always been held, UN sources said on Thursday.

"Since his arrival late December 2017, the Secretary-General Special Representative Colin Stewart, chose to abide by the long-standing practice of holding such meetings in Rabbouni, Algeria," said UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric in a press briefing.

Polisario Intercepts MINURSO Patrol, Fires Warning Gunshots, UN

Armed members of the polisario front intercepted, on March 16, a team of MINURSO military observers and fired warning gunshots, said UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.

MINURSO had informed the UNSC that, on March 16 in the Tifarity village, MINURSO military observers, who were on duty, were intercepted by armed members of the polisario front who fired warning gunshot, said Dujarric at his daily press briefing.

He added that only later were the observers allowed to resume their patrol.
